Founded in 1907. Built on faith, family, and the belief that every young person deserves to be truly known — and truly challenged.
In 1907, when San Marcos was still finding its shape as a Texas town, a small group of families started a school built on a simple idea: educate the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. One hundred and eighteen years later, that idea still runs through everything we do.
San Marcos Academy has grown from that founding classroom into a full PreK-12 campus, with day and boarding students from across Texas, the United States, and the world. But the core hasn't changed: small classes, strong faith formation, rigorous academics, and athletics that build character alongside championship banners.
To develop young people of character — academically prepared, spiritually grounded, and equipped to lead in whatever field, community, or calling comes next.
A Christian foundation that shapes daily life at SMA — not as a subject, but as the framework for how we treat each other, how we compete, how we serve.
Academic standards that prepare Bears for the best universities in the country — and the habits of mind to thrive once they get there.
A campus small enough that every student is known by name — and a alumni network that stretches back generations.
118 years of doing this well. The Bears bear, the green and purple, the 1907 Club — traditions that connect today's students to every class since our founding.
Dr. Brian Guenther leads SMA as Head of School, with a background in educational leadership and a deep commitment to the mission that has carried this institution since 1907.
